• Heavy-Duty Roofing Built to Last - Made from ultra-durable 60-mil EPDM rubber, RoofShield offers superior thickness and long-term resistance to punctures, shrinkage, and weather damage. Tested to meet ASTM D4637 standards with high tensile and tear strength, it’s a smart investment for demanding environments.
  •
  • Engineered for Commercial & High-Use Areas - This industrial-grade membrane is ideal for flat and low-slope commercial roofs, multi-unit buildings, and high-traffic zones. Its Low Slope Fire Retardant (LSFR) design adds an extra layer of safety while delivering protection that goes beyond basic weatherproofing.
  •
  • Maximum Flexibility with Extra Strength - While thicker, RoofShield 60-mil still bends and adapts to curves, corners, and uneven surfaces with ease. Proven to stay flexible down to -49°F (-45°C), it gives you rugged protection without sacrificing ease of installation.
  •
  • Great Choice for Long-Term RV Roof Replacements - For RV owners looking for lasting performance and peace of mind, the 60-mil membrane provides added strength for harsh travel conditions, UV exposure, and long-haul durability.
  •
  • Sized Right, Shipped Right - We recommend ordering slightly larger than your roof dimensions to ensure full coverage without stress and easy anchoring. Ships via LTL freight, accurate contact information required for smooth delivery. Liftgate available upon request with carrier.

FAQs About Firestone RubberGard

1. What is EPDM?
EPDM is an elastomeric compound that is manufactured from ethylene, propylene, and a small amount of diene monomer. These ingredients are synthesized to produce a product that exhibits a high degree of ozone, ultraviolet, weathering and abrasion resistance, and outstanding low temperature flexibility. These ingredients also contribute to resistance to acids, alkalis, and oxygenated solvents (i.e. ketones, esters, and alcohols).

2. What is the maximum size sheet for EPDM membrane?
Sheets as large as 50 feet in width are produced mostly for use in ballasted and mechanically fastened applications. Narrower widths are also produced to offer applicators greater flexibility in positioning membrane.

Narrower sheets are also produced without factory seams (seamless) for use primarily in adhered and mechanically fastened applications. The major advantage of seamless material is the elimination of factory splice T-joints that occur when factory seams intersect with field splices. This reduction in T-joints significantly increases the potential for watertight performance by eliminating potential "water channels" into field splices.

Both narrow and wide sheets are manufactured in varying lengths from 50' to 200'.

3. Are temperature limitations associated with the installation of EPDM roofing system?
In accordance with ASTM standard D 746, EPDM membrane has a brittleness temperature of -49° F. While the membrane will remain flexible and pliable in extremely cold temperatures, adhesives, flashings and tapes should be kept at room temperature (hot boxes are usually used on the rooftop to rotate adhesive cans and rolls of flashing). Although roofing contractors may select not to work in sub-freezing temperatures due to safety concerns, many EPDM installations have taken place in temps below 20° F.

4. Can EPDM be coated or painted?
Acrylic coatings are available that can be applied directly to a prepared EPDM surface. Preparation usually consists of cleaning the EPDM with a pressure washer and a detergent solution or wash. Latex-based paint products can also be used, however, the EPDM manufacturer should be contacted prior to application to ensure compatibility and continuation of warranty coverage.

5. How do I seam 2 pieces of liner together?
There are seam tapes like 3 inch double sided seam tape to seam to sheets of rubber together. There is also 6 inch and 12 inch flashing for detail work around vents, air conditioning and ventilation units and other large penetrations. There is also a rubber pipe boot for pipe penetrations that fits 1 inch up to 6 inch pipes.
