Ray Connolly, a reporter and journalist, enjoyed a close and trusted relationship with The Beatles from the 1960s through the 1980s. His connection with the group was especially significant, as he was scheduled to interview John Lennon on the day Lennon was tragically killed.

Following the breakup of The Beatles in 1970, Connolly cast Ringo Starr in a featured role in his film That’ll Be the Day. Shortly after the movie’s release, Starr issued Connolly a payment of £75 using this 8” x 3.5” Apple Films check. Adding to its appeal, the check is signed and inscribed, “Love, R. Starkey,” reflecting the genuine friendship between the two men.

After seeing numerous Ringo Starr checks over the years, this is the first example we have seen bearing a personal inscription like this. The check remains in fine condition overall, with only light handling wear. Authentication is provided by both Beckett Authentication Services (BAS) and PSA/DNA, each accompanied by full letters of authenticity.
