Antique 1915 first edition hardcover copy of The Indian To-Day: The Past and Future of the First American by Charles A. Eastman (Ohiyesa), published by Doubleday, Page & Company, Garden City, New York.
An important and collectible early 20th century work by Charles A. Eastman, one of the most respected Native American authors, physicians, lecturers, and reformers of his era.
This copy features several unique period handwritten inscriptions and signatures. The front endpaper appears to read:
“From Charles West Farmer U.S.A. to Rev. Charles McCauley”
The title page also contains an additional handwritten notation stating:
“I am personally acquainted with the author”
followed by initials believed to be “C.W.”
The handwriting appears original to the period and adds historical character and provenance to the book.
