Description
Rare original first printing Scott Hamilton (1954) promotional poster issued by Progressive Records in Japan in the late 1970s, presumably around the release of New Soil (1978) and The Grand Appearance (1979). Progressive Records was founded by Gus Statiras in New York in 1950. When the business declined, Savoy Records bought and reissued much of the label’s catalog, then sold it to Prestige Records with backing from Bainbridge, a Japanese record company. Progressive Records had a revival in the late 1970s when Statiras bought the label back from Fantasy Records, which by then had absorbed Prestige, which continued into the 1980s. Besides Scott Hamilton, Progressive’s second era included recordings by Buddy DeFranco, J. R. Monterose, and Al Haig. In the 1980s, Progressive was acquired by George Buck and his Jazzology group and is owned by the George H. Buck Jr. Jazz Foundation. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
The poster measures 51.4 x 72.9 cm (approx. 20.2″ by 28.7″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, dull-coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition, clean and unmarked. Guaranteed 100% original. Please see all supersized images below for the exact condition of the poster. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have regarding this item. Thank you.
