Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

If you are looking for something a little different than you might want to consider this very unique and rarer Altec 681A model Dynamic microphone with High impedance setting. The mic has what I would describe as a strong, clear tone that is void of bass and will be great for general broadcasting or basic singing purposes and will make a great mic for any HAM radio set up with a high Z input. This mic came with a gold diaphragm giving it an excellent frequency response. A very high quality mic even in todays standards. It also comes with a hard to find original mic clip and the new cable in which to operate.

Back in the 1960's The Altec Corporation was based out of Anaheim, California.

This gorgeous mic has a very modern contemporary mid century design. It's an all metal construction and it comes in the common Hunter Green paint scheme which is a signature Altec color though the mic was also sold in a satin chrome finish as well a platinum paint scheme.

Pic # 2 shows this very mic and it's basic characteristics in an old data sheet I have. Interestingly enough Altec sold this very mic under contract via Ampex and it was called the 801 model.

As you can see in the pictures provided this Altec microphone comes with a nice original plastic black mic clip which is in very nice physical condition and works perfectly. It will screw onto any stand you have and provides a very good grip on the mic. It will give a wide degree of tilt up and down as well.

This mic is almost perfect with an absolute minimum of wear. The painted finish has virtually no wear and about as nice as you could ask. Zero paint chips or fractures. The original Altec label is still present and completely legible. The front chrome screen is perfect. This 681A certainly sounds as good as it looks. The dynamic element is omni-directional in nature and again, a bit more "rockabilly" in tone. The signal is very strong. The original cable was replaced as it was badly damaged. The new cable is soft, pliable and has zero issues. It has the male 1/4 inch end connector for use with most modern audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers. It's just 7 feet long and great for applications where your audio equipment is closer.

This would make a nice mic to use on the daily and will stick out amongst the other mics due to it's design and overall finish.

As with all my vintage microphones...
