A charming piece of Watcombe Devon Motto Ware, one of the most beloved and collectable traditions in English country pottery. The plate features a hand-painted cottage landscape scene in the centre, framed by a border of blue dot decoration, with the classic West Country motto running around the rim: “If you cant be easy, be as easy as you can.”
Made on the characteristic red terracotta body with cream slip glaze. Backstamped “Watcombe / Devon Motto Ware / England” to the base.
