This is an extraordinary example of an antique Dongan village granary door from Mali, Africa. Hand carved of what appears to be Sonoko wood in the late 19c to early 20c it is intricately carved with male and female gods/goddesses, magical symbols and animals (lizard, turtle, snake & fish). The Dongon people hand carved their doors of elevated granaries to protect grain from humidity, theft and pests. Each door is unique and tells a story particular to the villager and village they come from. This has a wire loop on the back for hanging (PLEASE CHECK THE STATE OF THIS WIRE BEFORE USING) - will look amazing hanging on the wall as an exquisite tribal artwork. In good antique condition with a few signs of wear as would be expected for a piece this old. SIZE: 26.5” H X 17.25” W X 2” DEEP. NOTE: it is substantial and heavy. PLEASE VIEW ALL PICTURES CAREFULLY BEFORE PURCHASING.
