DESCRIPTION: This set was skillfully designed with the floral bouquet pattern using a multi-color palette of purple, pink, blue, yellow and green with gold on the high white porcelain. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The gold trim on the rims and the handle is very shiny and accents the fancy handle.
CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, its condition is excellent. One cup has a tight, waterproof 1/2" hairline near the bottom. I could not get the camera to focus on it. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, or other hairlines. Overall, the trim is glossy and appears as applied. See the photos.
DIMENSIONS: The cups have a diameter of 3 3/8" and have a height of 2 1/2" while it is 2 9/16" to the top of the handle. The saucer's diameter is 5 9/16" with a height of 7/8".
HISTORY/MARKS: Thomas Allen Green and Spencer Green were brothers who bought out other family members in 1876 of a business that could be traced back to 1801. The pottery was located at Minerva Works in Fenton, Staffordshire, England. The company traded as T.A. & S. Green until incorporated as Crown Staffordshire Porcelain Co. Ltd in 1903. The company was an important exporter to North America and continued limited production during WWII. In 1946, the company purchased Heron Cross Pottery to expand production. In 1948, the name was changed to Crown Staffordshire China Co. Ltd. The firm continued to be owned & operated by the Green family until 1964 when Semart Importing Co. (the US distributor of Crown Staffordshire) acquired the firm. The Crown Staffordshire name was used until it became part of the Wedgwood Group in 1974. The mark is identified by Geoffrey A. Godden’s (Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks) as #1152 which was used in the 1930-1974 time period.
