In Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, the Viktor branding refers to a mark burned into the skin of the Lycans to signify ownership. The crest serves as a brutal symbol of coven dominance, permanently marking the servant class of werewolves to keep them under the strict control of their vampire masters.

Purpose of the Brand
  • Ownership and Enslavement: The brand was seared onto the flesh of every Lycan slave to physically denote that they were the personal property of Viktor (or his vampire nobles).
  • Symbol of Control: It was a constant visual reminder to both vampires and Lycans of the rigid caste system, ensuring the latter were kept in line as both guards during the day and laborers.
Lucian’s Mark
  • Significance: The primary character, Lucian (portrayed by Michael Sheen), was the very first of the second-generation, human-looking werewolves. Born in captivity to a captured female werewolf, he was the only Lycan who possessed the ability to shift between human and wolf forms.
  • The Iron Collar: Along with the physical brand of the coven, Lucian was uniquely forced to wear a locked iron collar that could emit high-frequency torture, acting as a physical restraint to prevent him from rebelling.
  • Rebellion: The branding and enslavement ultimately backfired on Viktor. Lucian’s mark became the very symbol of his oppression, driving him to lead the Lycan revolt against the vampires after Viktor brutally executed Lucian's lover (Viktor's daughter, Sonja).
