Part of a large private collection of Native American oil paintings, this piece hails from Martensen's hometown of San Diego, California and features his signature style of richly colored realistic portraits of Native American Indians and historic Western and Southwestern themes. He did not specify the tribe or nation he is depicting with this warrior, but from the clothing, head dress and hair style, it likely depicts a Plains Indian warrior, such as Lakota Sioux or Nez Perce, both of which Martensen has featured in his other paintings.
