Please read all description as this is a pair of unusual knobs.
A Pair of Reclaimed Oval Shaped Old Brass door knobs come with threaded spindle, two back plates, locking mechanism and spring.
For use with a mortice/sash lock/latch. As these knobs have a nice patina, they have not been polished but buyer could polish them up if required.
Have never seen a pair like this but believe I have worked out how they are fitted using all the components.
Stamped on the underside of the backplates is "CARTER & AYNSLEY LTD LONDON PAT APP FOR". Understand that this company was a lock manufacturer trading in or before the Edwardian period.
- One knob has a threaded spindle. Place the spring on the spindle followed by the appropriate backplate.
- Pass this knob with the spindle through the door (and spindle socket if using a mortice/sash lock/latch).
- On the other side of the door, place the appropriate backplate and round locking mechanism on the spindle then thread the other door knob onto the spindle. Note the locking mechanism has two raised prongs which fit into the base of the knob.
- To get a tight fitting apply pressure on the knob containing the spring and adjust the other knob.
Hope the above makes sense. Have taken a number of pictures which should also help with the fitting. The knobs will be sent with all components in the correct sequence.
