This is an authentic 1988 The Players Championship money clip contestant credential badge, issued only to participating players and staff during the tournament. These metal credential money clips were clipped to belts or pockets and granted access to course grounds, locker rooms, clubhouse, practice range, and restricted tournament areas.
This piece is EXTREMELY hard to find, especially in new old stock condition with its original presentation box. Most surviving examples show heavy wear from on-course use — this one is beautifully preserved and displays incredibly well.
The front features the bold red & silver enamel “THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP 1988” medallion, and the back is stamped DEBCO, the official manufacturer of the tournament-issued credential clips.
The tournament was played at The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass and won by Mark McCumber with a record score of 15 under par.
