Description
Offered here is an original impressionist painting attributed to Pennsylvania artist John Pierce Barnes, circa 1930s. Painting is oil on canvas, wrapped over board and measures ~12 x 16 inches. Painting is indistinctly signed lower left with initials JPB. I beleive frame is original with overall size of ~18 x 22 inches. Chicago label verso.
Painting is in very good condition.

John Pierce Barnes (1893-1954)
Born in Philadelphia, John Barnes was a commercial artist and landscape and still-life painter. He is credited with the design of the logo for RCA Victor and was the long-time employee of the Radio Corporation of America Victor Design Division.
As a painter, his style was primarily impressionist, although he experimented with many styles.
He studied at the Philadelphia School of Industrial Design and the Pennsylvania Academy with Daniel Garber, and also studied in Europe for two years on a Cresson Traveling Scholarship and a Tappan Prize award, both from the Pennsylvania Academy.
In the 1920s, he got sleeping sickness, a condition that affected him throughout his life.
