Schuco Classic Mercedes Grand Prix 1936 Silver #7 Pressed Steel Clockwork Boxed
In the early 1990s Schuco (then owned by GAMA) merged with TRIX (who made small scale model trains) and produced limited numbers of high quality replica versions of their most popular vintage models. This is one of them - a beautiful 1:24 scale model of a 1936 Mercedes Grand Prix racing car (W25K). Pressed steel construction with silver paint, embossed Mercedes 3-pointed star on the front, racing number 7 painted side plate, grey painted front grille and embossed bonnet louvres. Bright metal side-exit exhaust, embossed fuel cap, brown seat, and black 4-spoke steering wheel.
The steering wheel is functional, turning the front wheels mechanically via a rack & pinion. The front axle is centrally articulated and the rear axle is sprung. This allows the model’s clockwork motor to be wound without a key by pressing down to engage the rubber-edged flywheel that protrudes through the base. The motor can also be wound by a key and the original Schuco-branded key is included.
The metal wheel hubs have blue spokes on one side and red on the reverse. The 2-eared hub nut spinners can be undone and the wheels removed using one of the 2 included Schuco-branded spanners and the included Schuco-branded hammer. A black metal quick lifting wheel jack is also included. The treaded rubber tyres can be removed using the tyre lever on the other spanner. The steering wheel can be removed using one of the included spanners. There is also a spare nut for the steering wheel and a spare hub nut.
Underneath is a gloss black baseplate lithographed with the Schuco Studio brand and trade marks. There are holes to view the rack & pinion steering and rear differential.
It comes in its original card box with instruction manual.

The Mercedes-Benz W25 is a Grand Prix racing car designed by Daimler-Benz AG for the 1934 Grand Prix season, in which new rules were introduced, and no championship was held. In 1935,[2] the European Championship was resumed, and it was won by Rudolf Caracciola in a W25. In modified form, the W25 remained in use until 1937, when it was succeeded by the Mercedes-Benz W125.
Schuco is a German brand and former manufacturing company founded in 1912 by Heinrich Müller and the businessman Heinrich Schreyer in Nuremberg, popularly known as Germany's toy capital. The company's specialty was making toy reproductions of cars and trucks in tin, plastic and die-cast. The company went bankrupt in 1976 but was reorganized in 1993 and then totally independent again by 1996 before its acquisition by the Simba Dickie Group in 1999.
