This fiber art piece is in a wood frame.
Beautiful embroidery of Ixchel, the ancient Mayan goddess of water, fertility, and medicine.
A key identifying feature is the serpent / snake headdress worn by the figure. In Mayan iconography, when Ixchel is shown as an older woman (her "crone" stage), she is often associated with the destruction and life-giving power of water.
This piece draws heavily from Mayan and Aztec influence.
It measures approximately 15.75" x 12.5".
In good condition.
