A hybrid of breathtaking parentage, the Philodendron Amazon Spirit brings together two of the most revered species in the collector aroid world - Philodendron patriciae, celebrated for its enormous, corrugated, pendulous leaves and vigorous growth, and Philodendron spiritus-sancti, the critically endangered Brazilian endemic widely regarded as the holy grail of the genus. The result is a climbing hybrid that captures the best of both parents: elongated, glossy, deep green leaves with an elegant, tapering form that hints at the extraordinary silhouette of the spiritus-sancti lineage, carried on a more vigorous and adaptable plant than either parent alone. Each leaf is a nod to the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon basin from which its heritage is drawn, and as the plant climbs and matures the foliage becomes increasingly dramatic in size and presence. A genuinely significant hybrid from a collector standpoint - combining two of the most desirable philodendrons in existence into a single, vigorous, cultivatable plant.
* Light: Bright indirect light ideal. Tolerates medium light but grows more slowly and produces smaller leaves. No direct sun - scorches the glossy foliage. * Water: Water when top 2-3" of medium has dried out. Sensitive to overwatering - this hybrid inherits some of the spiritus-sancti parent's preference for a clear dry-down between waterings. Excellent drainage essential. * Humidity: 60%+ preferred. Adapts to 50% with some margin but thrives with higher ambient moisture. A humidifier supports faster growth and larger leaf development. * Soil: Chunky aroid mix - orchid bark, perlite, and potting soil or coco coir. Provide a moss pole or trellis - climbing support is essential for encouraging the large, mature leaf form this hybrid is capable of. * Fertilizer: Balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength every 2-4 weeks during active growth. Consistent nutrition supports the vigorous climbing habit. Reduce in winter. * Temperature: 65-85°F (18-29°C). Keep above 60°F. No cold drafts or AC vents - strictly tropical with no cold tolerance. * Pests: Watch for thrips, spider mites, and mealybugs. Inspect new growth and leaf undersides regularly. Treat promptly at first sign with insecticidal soap, spinosad, or neem-based products. * Toxicity: Toxic to humans and pets if ingested. Contains calcium oxalate crystals causing irritation and swelling of the mouth, throat, and digestive tract. * Propagation: Stem cuttings taken just below a node, rooted in water or sphagnum moss in warm, humid conditions. As a hybrid, seedlings will not reproduce the parent plant - vegetative propagation is the only reliable method for true Amazon Spirit offspring.
