Please note when I was trying to find out about metronômes in general, it kept getting stressed that JTL (see below) is important, important enough to be told to draw it to people's attention. So there we go.
Although I haven't used it for decades, it is still in good working order. Certainly a good clean - by an expert - won't do any harm lol.
I remember clearly the bell used to ping brightly, but now it's not quite as clear. I enquired and was assured cleaning would fix that. But.. one can still hear the ringing, just not as clearly, so, I gather, not a major issue. .
Given to me in the mid 1950s by a lady pianist who had had it possibly from new, she was OLD back then. She believed I could benefit from it, and I suppose I did. She just said it was French!!
Mahogony , I believe. An 'expert' dated it, because of the J T L stamp at the base of the pendulum, as being between 1837 and 1901. Another suggested 1900.to 1910. Either way, antique.
One thing I read a couple of times was that the company who made this, Jerome Thibouville-Lamy, were actually regarded as employing craftsmen superior to the famous Paquet company, based in Paris. And here was I thinking it was just an old metronome lol.
Both Winder and Bell in good working order.
I found Jerome Tribouille-Larny, who's stamped initials are at the base of the pendulum is the company which produced musical everythings from 1867- 1969. It was pointed out that this proof of authenticity is important.. Nice to know. They are regarded as experts in the field.
I was told that MANY many Metronômes were produced over the years, but this JTL stamp makes a big difference. It is also interesting, but don't ask, and can't find, why lol, that the wooden feet are also significant! The things you learn. The above advice came from a European dealer. He said it's a historical and collectable piece, and asked why I was parting with it!!? Lol. Well, such is life.
He aIso suggested a starting asking. All very confusing and interesting. It's only taken me decades to accept that I most likely will never use it again lol, and the best option is a new caring home.
Am very happy to receive advice and comments. One has to start somewhere
