Hmong Reverse Applique is an intricate needlework technique traditionally used by Hmong women in Southeast Asia to decorate clothing, where multiple layers of fabric are stacked, and the top layers are meticulously cut away, folded, and stitched down to reveal contrasting colors underneath.
The work requires exceptional precision, often using tiny, folded-under edges, and hidden stitches.
This cloth square is in excellent vintage condition in bright red and blue fabric. The entire square measures 8" x 8", and the applique itself measures about 6" x 6". The motif is a little bit off center in the total square.
