Thank you for your interest in this listing!

You are purchasing the item in the title and described below in "About the comic". Pictures on the listing are of the actual issue (not stock image).

This listing is for DC Comics' Unknown Soldier issue #257 (from 1977 series, issue released in 1981).

I bought this issue from a 7-11 in Elmira, NY generally on the day available. I've been the sole owner since release.

About the Comic & Condition Notes

The comic contains several distinct narratives:

  • "'Til Armageddon Do Us Part!" (Main Story): The Unknown Soldier wakes from a four-month coma to a nightmare scenario where the Allies have apparently lost the war to the Axis powers. He must navigate this altered reality and ultimately escape the Nazis.
  • "Blood Brothers!": A Vietnam-era infantry story.
  • "Requiem for a PT Boat" (Part 1): A flashback story exploring how Captain Storm lost his leg, featuring a cameo by a young John F. Kennedy.
  • "War Games": A one-page humor strip.

The issue was produced by a diverse team of Bronze Age creators:

  • Cover Artist: Joe Kubert.
  • Writers: Bob Haney, Robert Kanigher.
  • Pencilers: Dick Ayers, Jack Sparling, Adrian Gonzalez
  • Inkers: Gerry Talaoc, Jack Sparling, Sam Grainger

About me:

I'm a private collector (not a store); issues are purchased and carefully handled. Upon purchase, I place the issue in a bag/board, typically have read once, and then store in a short/long box. Over time I've decided these should be enjoyed by other readers or collectors. I am not a professional grader, but I have many years' experience in comic grading. I am confident I've been pretty accurate and the grade is fair.
