Offered for sale is a 9 ¼-inch-tall medicine embossed
with “Dr. J. Hostetter’s / Stomach Bitters.” Bottle has been nicely tumbled. It
has a beautiful amber color, a tapered collar applied top, light whittling, sunken
areas on the embossed panel, and a key-mold base marked with “L&W / 5.” This
is the mark of Lorenz & Wightman who made bottles in Pittsburgh, Pa.
I’m not sure how many mold variations there are of the L&W Hostetter’s, but
I know of at least 49. This would be a great bottle for a collector who is
working on a run of L&W Hostetter’s and needs a 5. This bottle has no
cracks, chips, or bruises, and very few, if any, scratches. Glass is clean and
embossing is strong. A gorgeous 1870’s bitters! Please check all photos before purchasing. I offer a full, money back guarantee including
freight on everything I sell if you think it isn’t as described. Please click on “See other items” to check
out everything else I sell.
