The kit contains 12 resin parts, 1 vacumformed canopy, a photo of the built model and an english-german instruction sheet; decals for the version "KH XB" are included; the basic kit Junkers Ju 290 A scale 1/72 by Revell is not included.
After the
National Socialists took over the Junkers factory in 1935 and Hugo Junkers was
stripped of his power, the company's technical expertise was used to build
large bombers, Stukas and medium bombers. The tender for a long-range bomber
resulted in the four-engine Junkers Ju 89. The RLM made a concession to Luft
Hansa to modify the Ju 89 as a commercial aircraft, which then resulted in the
Junkers Ju 90. The prototype was still equipped with the Ju 89's Daimler Benz
DB 600A engines, but from the Ju 90 V2 onwards, the weaker BMW 132 H was
installed, as the DB 600 was reserved for the Luftwaffe. The Junkers Ju 90 was
built from 1937 to 1939. The fuselage was widened and raised compared to the Ju
89, so that the aircraft could accommodate up to 40 passengers in great
comfort. The first two V-models were lost during test flights, another six
models were handed over to Deutsche Luft Hansa by 1940, and the rest were later
used by the Luftwaffe as transporters. From the V5 onwards, the Junkers Ju 90
had a hinged transport hatch on the bottom of the fuselage, through which small
vehicles could be driven into the fuselage or heavy loads could be loaded. The
Ju 290 and Ju 390 were further developed from the Ju 90. None of the 18 Junkers
Ju 90s built survived the Second World War; the last aircraft were blown up
towards the end of the war.
