Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a sacred bamboo, called Nanten in Japanese, bearing red fruits and calligraphy of a short poem. It is signed with a name and a red seal. Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. It was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan and has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake in the Buddhist altar.
