Hand Crafted in the USA THE LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST Cross 8-1/2" x 11-1/2" 1.9 lbs
This cross is possibly a terracotta work, delicately sculpted by the expression and posture of the characters and the wrinkles on the clothes. This form of the cross is called the "Life of Christ Cross" or the "Narrative Cross".
This cross captures important moments in the framework of the life of Jesus. It is made so that the life and work of Jesus can be seen at a glance. The basic structure is characterized by the order of life and events.
This form of cross served as a "visual Bible" (Biblia Pauperum) that could tell the story of the gospel to those who could not read the text in a way that was widely used in folk faith since the Middle Ages.
Since the 19th century, Christian art has valued symbolism and personal faith, and works with complex symbols such as the “Jesus Life Cross” have begun to be made into household items. Today, they are made in relief, sculpture, stained glass, painting, etc. through various materials and formats such as wood, metal, glass, and ceramics.
This “surrect the cross of Jesus” consists of six panels.
The center is depicted by Jesus, who suffered from crucifixion, and the people around him are seen as Mother Mary, the Apostle John, and other women. This is the scene of the crucifixion in Mark 15, verses 21 to 40, and John 19, 25 to 27.
On the left is a scene in which Joseph fled Herod's persecution and took the baby Jesus and his mother, Mary, to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15).
On the right is the scene where the resurrected Jesus holds the triumphant cross (or the flag of resurrection) in his hands. It symbolizes Christ who overcame death and won.
Above, the baby Jesus is lying in a manger and Mary and Joseph are together (Luke 2:1-20).
Below is the scene of the Annunciation, where the angel Gabriel announces the birth of Jesus to Mary (Luke 1:26-38).
The structure that placed the scene of the crucifixion in the center and surrounded by other scenes is an expression that the life of Jesus is finally completed through the cross, and that the cross is the center of salvation. The expressions and gestures of each character are expressed in detail, and their inner sadness, awe, and hope are vividly expressed.
