Antique original coffin style smoothing plane by J. Pearce Company in New York likely from the very early 1900s.  This plane measures 8" in length and has a cutter that is branded as "THE CHAPIN-STEPHENS Co. PINE MEADOW.CONN. USA".  The plane is stamped with "J. PEARCE NEW YORK No 108" at the upper portion of the front.  The plane is in good condition for its age - some 125 years.  The cutter is tapered with measuring 1/16" at the top and 3/16" at the bottom edge.  The edge looks nice and may be mostly original.  There are a couple nicks as the pictures show.
