They are an ethnic group from the Peruvian Amazon, in an area located on the banks of the Ucayali River. The identity of the shipibo is related to their language, history, territory and art.
The shipibo have a rich and complex cosmology which have inspired their artistic traditions, many of their traditions, such as ayahuasca shamanism, are still practiced.
The purpose of ayahuasca is to return to the origin of all things, where the individual sees the creation of the universe. A shaman will transform the visuals into sound which the female artists will translate in the geometric patterns and designs painted and embroidered in the shipibo textiles.
