For sale, I have a 2 Coursed string Cigar Box style Diddley Bow Chugger made using an M&M Tin, a length of broom handle and several guitar parts.

1st, a Chugger is a 2 string cousin of the 1 String Diddley Bow and is played in a similar manner, the only real difference is that the Chugger has 2 strings and is often tuned with a dry open chord like you would on a 3 string Cigar Box guitar and sits as an in-between of the 2 designs.

2nd, Coursed Stringing is where strings are strung close together and played as if they are 1 string. this feature is most common on a 12 string guitar which has 6 pairs of strings. Coursed string instruments can either be a pair of strings with the same gauges tuned in unison such as the e, b and G strings or 2 strings with rather different gauges tuned to the same note but with one string an octave higher such as the D, A and E strings

The overall length of the guitar is 31.5 inches and as a maximum scale length of 25.5 inches as is standard for most Fender style guitar. This scale can be shortened by moving the large nut and bolt that serves as the bridge piece about the body. at this time, I have it on a short 22.5 inch scale which lowers the overall pitch of the strings sound and gives a nice low growl to the tone. The body is made using an M&M tin which is 5 inches in diameter and is 2.25 inches deep. The tin is equipped with a single 25mm piezo disc pickup which is glued underneath the lid of the tin and is wired into a standard electric guitar jack socket which is also mounted on the lid of the tin.

The neck is a 31 inch long length of pine broom handle with a diameter of 28mm. I have cut a wedge out of the rounded end of the broom handle in order to mount a standard pair of guitar machine heads in a 1-a-side arrangement. the neck is also equipped with a single 4mm bolt which is 25mm long and serves as the nut. the neck is secured to the tin using a pair of long screws at the rear of the tin through the Steel hinge which serves as the tailpiece of the guitar. due to the nature of the neck, a slide is required to play this guitar.

I have strung this guitar with Ernie Ball electric guitar strings; one is a 32 gauge and the other is a 17 gauge, both strings are tuned to A but the 17 gauge is tuned as octave higher. This tuning can be lowered or raised as desired without need of changing the strings simply by adjusting the scale length. As both strings are tuned the same it is suitable for both left and right handed players, however I can on request move the jack socket to the other side of the tin lid so it is more suitable for a lefty player simply by rotating the lid. due to the nature of the neck, a slide is required to play this guitar. on request, I can restring this guitar into a standard Chugger with an Open tuning opposed to the coursed variety that it currently features.
