Albert Thurston Vintage Naval Boxcloth Trouser Braces/Suspenders with unique Catgut fittings.
This is a unique set of trouser braces made for and purchased aquired from Geives and Hawkes No 1 Savile Row London UK, in 1980. It is made from box cloth and leather fittings, but what makes this set of Bracers unique is the connecters to the tabs are made of catgut*. Thurstons used to use this material on all of their high end baraces, but since the mid 1980s have ceased to do so.
Another unique feature of these braces is in their make up: the straps are Red to the Left and Green to the Right of the body. Primarily intended tho remind the budding sailor or aviator which side is Port and Starboard.
*Catgut is a term referring to a material used for the strings of some musical instruments and other leater goods. It is not, made from cats.
