Handcrafted vintage copper wastebasket featuring a raised nautical sailing ship motif. This is a studio-made decorative piece by G. Nelson Shaw, known for producing artisan copper home décor in the mid-20th century. The copper exterior displays rich aged patina with hand-worked detailing, including repoussé ship artwork and a decorative geometric band around the base.

The original studio label on the bottom reads “Boston 16, Mass.” This is a pre-ZIP Code postal zone format that was used in major U.S. cities prior to the national ZIP code system introduced in 1963. This postal marking helps date this piece to the 1940s–early 1960s period, supporting its mid-century origin and vintage authenticity.

The interior features a fitted metal base with four raised feet for stability. Construction is solid and heavy for its size, making this more than just a functional wastebasket — it also works well as a decorative floor container, umbrella stand, plant cover, or coastal accent piece.

This is not mass-produced décor. The hand-applied copper wrap, studio label, and visible hand-finishing marks reflect true artisan craftsmanship. A great fit for nautical, coastal, mid-century modern, industrial, or vintage interior design.
