OFFICIAL GIGANTOR EPISODE GUIDE & COMPENDIUM TRADE PAPERBACK
Published in December, 2000 by Antarctic Press & Entercolor Technologies, Inc. Written by Fred Ladd, who produced & distributed the Gigantor cartoon in the ‘60s. Compiled & edited by Ben Dunn & Doug Dlin. 72 pages in Black & White. Original retail was $12.95.
This is a look at the 52 episodes of the 1963 anime which was a Japanese adaptation of the 1956 manga, “Tetsujin 28-go” (Iron Man No. 28) by Mitsutaru Yokoyama. Fred Ladd had previously produced the English language adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s “Astro Boy” (“Tetsuwan Atom”). There were actually 97 episodes of “Tetsujin 28-go” in Japan, of which Ladd only brought over the 52 which are covered here. Marketed as “Gigantor” in North America because, even though it debuted in 1956 in Japan, it could not be releases as Iron Man No. 28 because Marvel Comics had debuted their Iron Man first (in “Tales of Suspense” #39 (1962)).
