The olive has a history almost as long as that of Western civilization, it's development being one of civilized man's first accomplishments.

Manzanillo is a stately small landscape specimen, distinguished by its large spherical olives with smaller pits, yielding more flesh. Foliage is more finely textured, with dense, arching branches on more compact, rounded form. Blooms and matures about a week earlier. Olives are useful stuffed, salted green, black, or for oil.

Although it is self pollinating, mixing varieties will help increase yields. Olive trees are evergreen and slow growers. They will reach  maturity very slower. They thrive in hot summers but will tolerate coastal regions too.

How often do olive trees need to be watered?
Potted trees will need to be watered more often than trees planted in the ground. Allow the soil to dry somewhat before watering, then water until the soil is soaked. The normal, healthy potted olive tree will need fertilizer twice a year, once in the spring and once mid-summer.
