I took the back off this to see if there was any information and found the certificate as shown in the photos, I’m not sure if the certificate relates to the girl in the portrait but can’t see any other reason they would enclose it in the back, there is a board to cover over this as shown in the last photo.

The frame is in good condition as is the glass, some of the nails to hold the board in were rotten and fell out so although it holds the back it will need securing by more tacks.

The silk looks in good condition and there is some colour in the portrait so maybe hand coloured.

There is some reflection on the portrait which couldn’t be helped.

A lovely piece of history with a little mystery to the subject.
