Description

A very old, 19th century or earlier wood carving from the Igbo people of Nigeria and surrounding countries. The carving represents a man's head surmounted with rams horns, at the front of a ram's neck and head. It sitting on a round base, all-over carved with repeated decorative elements, one on the top of the base, another on the rim. It may have begun life as a jar cover. It is 8" tall. The base is out of round, but was once something like 7" in diameter. The piece is in very rough condition. Most of the horns are missing. Most of the original kaolin is gone. There are dings, and age cracks around the base. But it still has a presence few of contemporary traditional carvings have.

Shipping

Shipping charges are for shipping only. There is no handling fee. In most cases USPS will be chosen. All fragile items will be double boxed, which, in the case of larger items, might result in the shipper charging a fee for an oversized package. Books will be mailed Media rate in the US, unless otherwise requested.
