Description:
This is an original Austro-Hungarian World War I service medal, the Pro Deo et Patria Medal (1914–1918), awarded for loyal military service during the First World War. The medal features the imperial Austro-Hungarian coat of arms on the obverse and the helmeted profile with the inscription “Pro Deo et Patria 1914–1918” on the reverse, framed by a laurel wreath.
The medal is an original period-manufactured example, produced using traditional striking methods consistent with official wartime and immediate postwar issue. The metal, relief, edge characteristics, and overall construction align with authentic period production rather than later cast or reproduction examples.
The medal is suspended from a correct-pattern ribbon. Based on construction, weave, and observed wear, the ribbon appears consistent with period or early service use; however, as with most surviving medals, it is not possible to state with certainty whether the ribbon is the original issued ribbon or an early replacement. Replacement of worn ribbons during and after service was common practice and does not affect the authenticity of the medal itself.
This is a solid, collector-grade example suitable for World War I militaria collections, Austro-Hungarian imperial history displays, or medal group research.
Features:
• Original WWI Austro-Hungarian service medal
• Correct period striking with sharp details
• Authentic suspension and correct-pattern ribbon
• Not a reproduction or modern casting
• Dated 1914–1918
• Ideal for advanced militaria collectors
