This is a beautiful Cochiti-style Pueblo drum, handmade with a thick rawhide head, carved wood body, and the bold painted triangular motifs long associated with traditional Pueblo drum-making. Its surface has developed the kind of warm, lived-in patina collectors love — softened pigments, rubbed edges, natural oxidation, and visible hand-tool work.

The painted design wraps around the entire drum in vivid yellow, white, blue, and red crescents above elongated triangular panels, a classic aesthetic seen frequently in drum-making communities of the Southwest. The colors have aged beautifully, revealing layers of use and the natural tone of the wood beneath. Every detail — the lacing slots, the rawhide stretch points, the carved ridges — reflects traditional hand construction.

The drum remains structurally strong with a tight rawhide head and a resonant, earthy tone when tapped. A simple twine handle was added by a previous owner and can be removed if desired. Whether displayed as a collector’s piece or appreciated as art, it has a warm, grounded presence that instantly draws the eye.

This drum’s character is what makes it special — the mottled rawhide, the aged paint, the carved contours, and the gentle scuffing that only decades of life can create. It’s a warm, soulful handmade piece that fits beautifully in collections of Southwestern, Indigenous, or folk art.
