Dixon House Hotel and Other Businesses
London Road
Brucefield, Ontario
Measures 5 5/8" x 3 3/16"
This antique photo shows the Dixon House hotel and other businesses that were located on the east side of London Road, just south of Mill Road. The only building that remains to this day is the Dixon House (22 London Road). Based on my research, I believe this photo dates between 1898 and 1901.
The storefront located on the left side of Dixon House has signage that reads JAMIESON. This was a shoe store owned by J.B. Jamieson. An ad for this shop appeared in the May 13, 1898 issue of The Clinton New Era. An article in the June 7, 1901 issue of this paper reported that Jamieson had sold his inventory of boots and shoes to someone in Varna. I've uploaded a copy of these newspaper clippings.
Very nice condition. The card the photo is mounted to has some discoloration from age. Please see the images provided, as they're part of the description.
