Original 1952 - William Tewkesbury - The New Yorker - Illustration Artist / Cartoonist
Original Newspaper Cartoon / Comic Strip Art "FLONG" Printing Molds
From what I can tell, these are signed on the bottom "1952 - William Tewkesbury", while further down on the individual slides they are signed: "Tewks". I can not find any information about this artist.
- I believe these Flongs are by cartoonist Dick Brooks, given the Lynn Brooks comic reference. However, that does not explain the "Tewks" Signatue
For Search Engine Results Only / Key Words: William Steig
- The first cartoon comic strip slide appears to be of a GAY INTEREST plot,
(at JONES BEACH), as each scene portrays 2-men & 1-woman - one male who is interested only in the scenery around them, and one who is only focused on the woman despite what the partner is saying. (Pun emphasis on scenery, jones beach tower "shaft" reference.
- The second slide appears to be a scene poking fun at the rival newspaper: The New York Times with mention of the Long Island Railroad Lines & Lynn Brooks.
CONDITION: OVERALL GOOD. THESE ARE THE FLONG MOLDS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN USED TO CREATE THE METAL PRINTING PLATES FOR NEWSPAPER COMIC STRIP CARTOONS.. THEY ARE MOUNTED WITH TAPE ON THE VERSO TO A THIN PIECE OF BLUE PAPER MATTING. PLEASE EXAMINE ALL PICTURES FOR BEST DETAILS. EXACTLY AS PICTURED.
