The Zenith model 5G500 features the "Wave Magnet" antenna that was designed for AM (Amplitude Modulation) and shortwave reception typical for portable radios from that era. The Wave Magnet antenna was a Zenith innovation specifically for improving AM and shortwave reception by allowing the user to rotate the internal antenna for the best signal reception, as FM was not widely adopted in portable radios until a later date. Early portable radio era the would evolve into zenith’s legendary Trans-Oceanic line
