Features of this Trade Card:

Retailer: Liebig Company's Extract of Meat
Location: The company was founded in London, but the product was made in Uruguay.
Date: 1865 (indirectly via many, many mergers the company still exists, they produce OXO beef cubes that are sold today.)
Product Description:
Background: In 1847, Justus Freiherr von Liebig developed a concentrated beef extract in hopes of providing a cheap and nutritious meat substitute. He would trim the fat from the meat, break the meat into small particles, boil it with water to form a liquid of 6-8% solids, and then stir it over low heat, until it was reduced to a paste. The description sounds like it is a bullion paste for broth.
