About the Unit:
New on-site testing equipment can perform simple, speedy and nondestructive evaluation of the safety and reliability of large structures such as power plants, refineries and pipelines. Developed by Frontics, Inc., of Korea using state-of-the-art Instrumented Indentation Technique (IIT), AIS 3000 Compact makes possible nondestructive diagnosis of the operational safety levels of large facilities.
IIT evaluates the mechanical properties of metallic materials by pressing a probe with a ball-shaped tip into the facilities being assessed. Mechanical properties such as hardness, elastic modulus, tensile properties, fracture toughness, and residual stress are derived from continuous measurements of the load-displacement curve. The reliability and accuracy of this technique have been recognized by its acceptance as an ISO 2008 standard (ISO/TR 29381) in 2008.
The AIS3000 Compact unit is highly portable (it weighs only 7lbs and is same as size of 2-liter coke bottle) and its various attachments and accessories (U block, V block, magnets, chain, etc.) let it adapt to objects of almost any shape (flat plates, pipes, pressure vessels, weld joints). Since the test is non-destructive, the AIS3000 compact can be used on site on equipment in operation; in addition, no separate test-specimen preparation is required.
