1889 Standard Mining Company Stock Certificate – St. Louis, Missouri / Wood River, Idaho – Alturas County Mining
Original 1889 stock certificate issued by the Standard Mining Company, incorporated under the laws of Illinois with offices in East St. Louis, Illinois, and a branch in St. Louis, Missouri. The company’s mining operations were located along the Wood River in Alturas County, Idaho, an important silver and lead mining district active during the late 19th century.
This certificate, dated May 17, 1889, certifies that W. H. Thornburgh was the owner of 1,000 shares of the company’s capital stock, valued at ten dollars each. It features beautiful engraved and handwritten elements in brown and black inks on cream wove paper, with the company’s embossed corporate seal at the lower left.
Signed by A. Hughes (Secretary) and A. H. Ludenberg (President), the document displays the bold calligraphy typical of Gilded Age corporate stationery. The reverse bears a later estate transfer endorsement signed by Florence P. Thornburgh, Executrix of the will of W. H. Thornburgh, and witnessed by Daniel W. Stitz.
A fine, authentic piece of late 19th-century Western mining history with strong St. Louis investment ties and Idaho mining provenance.
