SS32 - 011 - Postcard - Union Castle Line - RMS Kinfauns Castle - Southampton

This is a postcard depicting the RMS Kinfauns Castle leaving Empress Dock in Southampton. The ship was a Royal Mail Ship of the Union-Castle Line, which operated a route between Southampton, England and Cape Town, South Africa.
  • The Kinfauns Castle was built in 1899 by the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Glasgow.
  • It was the sister ship to the RMS Kildonan Castle.
  • The ship had a gross tonnage of 9,652 and a service speed of 17 knots. 
  • The Kinfauns Castle was requisitioned for troop transport during the Boer War and later served as a hospital ship during World War I.
