In 1970 Shane Macgowan won a Daily Mirror competition for children’s writing. The winners were published in a book called “ Children As Writers”

Shane’s story is four pages long as is called “ To Mac A Bus”. Shane Macgowan was 11 years old when he wrote this story. The story itself is extraordinary and shows the genesis of what would later become his signature writing, a fascination about people at the very bottom of society, alchohol and observation without pity or seeking any redemption for the characters within.

The book is magazine size and is in excellent condition, close to fine, possibly unread except by myself.

The only other copy I known of is in the British Library and is a very rare item indeed. It took me over five years to find. I have had a slipcase made with Shane’s name on the spine. The case is green with a small orange tag to pull the book out, the book is then within another green custom made document holder to give the book ultimate protection and to present the book in a deserving manner of Shane Macgowan’s earliest published work.
