On offer is a NEW (new old stock) carbon fiber fork intended for use with an Easy Racers long wheelbase recumbent bicycle. The fork has a 1" diameter threadless steerer tube that is 11 and 3/8" long. The fork is very light: about half the weight of the steel version of this fork. The carbon fiber construction is claimed to quiet road vibrations, and make the bike feel more smooth-riding. Some riders think the carbon fiber fork is nicer looking. The vibration and appearance claims are controversial, though the light weight is beyond dispute. This fork weighed 424 grams on my Weight Watchers scale. Cut down to fit you bike it will weigh even less. A steel fork weighs about 990 grams in comparison.
The fork - and a few others - was exhumed from a storage facility in Watsonville California. I have both carbon and steel Easy Racers forks to sell, both 1" diameter steerer tube and 1 & 1/8" diameter. Email me if you are looking for an Easy Racers fork. We will find a way.
How does the carbon fork compare to the steel in reliability? I do not know. To make a fair comparison, you would need to know the total number of miles traveled on steel forks over the decades, divided by the number of failures. You would need to know the same information for the carbon forks. Gardner Martin might have had some idea, but he is gone (RIP). Denton Coetzee might know, but he is not talking. I have heard two credible reports of Easy Racers carbon fiber forks failing. And far more reports of Easy Racers steel forks cracking and failing. The jury is out about this.
For what it is worth, I intend to use these forks on my own bikes, and I am risk-averse.
Thanks for your attention and ride safely.
