Authentic handmade Quality product made by an Amish lady from Northern Pennsylvania This genuine Amish Straw Hat has a 3 1/2 inch brim and 4 inch round style crown. It is made of straw and features a 3/4 inch black band with a leather tag on the inside with handwritten size of 7 1/8 inch on the tag. It is not a cheaper replica made in China. The replica hats are sized S, M, L, or XL authentic Amish hats have the numbers. This type of straw hat is the choice of hat for the Amish farmers who know the value of a good hat while spending days working in their fields in the sun. As is the case with most unique handmade products the size is approximate but very close. Lightweight, durable & comfortable this hat should have many years of use in it. Shipping and handling charge is $12. We try to ship as soon as possible after payment is received. We appreciate your interest in our auction and welcome any comments or suggestions you may have. Feel free to email us. Thank you.
It is hard to find a hat that fits perfectly as soon as you put it on so a helpful hint and note from the Amish hat makers is that if it is only a bit too small the Amish hats or any other genuine straw hat can be modified to fit by loosing the band, either holding over a steaming pan of hot water or spraying a bit of water on the hat around the spot where the band goes from the inside. Once the straw is moist, not totally wet, it can be placed over a bowl or similar item that is slightly larger than the hat and allowed to dry. Then replace / retie the band. This only works if it needs to be just a bit larger but is the way the Amish fit their hats sometimes letting them dry to fit on the head while wearing them.

Instructions on measuring for your hat size -
You can use a tape measure (or a length of string
that you will have to hold up to a tape measure) to determine the length. Place
the string or tape around your head about 1/8" above your ear, across the
mid-forehead, completely circling your head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too
tightly. Basically you need to measure your head exactly where the hat will
sit.
