RARE 1888 • N281 Buchner • Scenes w/ Policeman • PIER AT CONEY ISLAND

This is a wonderful offering of Buchner's Scenes with a Policeman. I thought this set had a strange theme when I first stumbled upon it, but the illustrations of the various American sights are pretty amazing. Obviously policemen were held in high esteem. I enjoy seeing what NYC (for example) looked like or what the fashion was back then in the subjects. It's interesting to note was considered a popular scene or important event back in 1888. Some are no longer relevant or even around, and yest some still are modern day attractions. This N281 set is very difficult to find. SGC has a ZERO graded population for this particular card. They are rare.

This particular card depicts a policeman patrolling the pier at Coney Island. The policeman is chatting with a couple out enjoying the beach in their full Victorian garb. No speedos or thong bikinis for them! Coney Island in 1888 was THE place to go. It was one of the first electrified places in the world. The glow from it's myriad of light bulbs could be seen 30 miles out to sea at night by passing ships. During the day hundreds of thousands flocked to the seashore for the salty sea air, swimming or going to Luna or Steeplechase Parks for the wild amusement rides and attractions.

This card is in VG condition, but presents very well. It possesses solid centering. It does have staining, and some minor surface grit on the front. The corners have honest wear, and the back has some stains. Card measures 2 1/4"H x 3 3/4"W.

Now is your chance to add this historical gem to your Buchner, N281, Police, Coney Island, or NYC collection.
