Antique Staffordshire pottery figure of Roger Giles early 19th century

Dated: 1835 Staffordshire England

This politically incorrect and comical pottery figure shows Roger Giles in a "squatting" position and decorated with enamels and pearlware glaze. The model made in the form of a pounce or pepper pot with holes pierced into the hat. The figure is inspired by a Roger Giles advertisement stating, " Fresh eggs laid by me every day," reflecting the bawdy earthy humor of the day. Various potteries produced figures of Roger Giles.

Dimensions: 4.5 inches high, 2-3/8" from side to side x 3.25" front to back.

Current Condition: good with chip on the top rim of his hat and the bottom corner looks to have been repaired.

The previous owner had this marked 450.00.  He owned an antique store in Mi. (Last photo).
