Event Details: This FDC features the T.116 souvenir sheet, the first in a series on the "Dunhuang Frescoes." The artwork on the stamp is from a mural in the Mogao Caves and depicts the Jataka tale of Prince Mahasattva (Sattva), who sacrifices his own body to feed a starving tigress and her cubs. This story is a well-known Buddhist allegory of ultimate compassion.
