The Shimano DURA-ACE RD-R9250 Rear Derailleur is Shimano’s fastest and most advanced rear derailleur to date. Designed for 12-speed road drivetrains, it shifts 58% faster than the previous version. Additionally, this rear derailleur uses Shimano’s Di2 wireless shifting to help deliver unmatched performance.

To push efficiency even further, we’ve paired this derailleur with the CeramicSpeed Alpha RS OSPW. Featuring a lightweight carbon-reinforced cage, premium ceramic bearings and a redesigned cage shape, the Alpha RS reduces drivetrain drag. This means more of your power is transferred to the wheels and not lost in your drivetrain. This OSPW uses 15T upper and 19T lower oversized pulleys. This minimizes chain articulation which minimizes drag and improves chain life.

CeramicSpeed’s updated cage design not only improves aesthetics, but also makes the derailleur cage stronger. This provides better shifting, especially under load. The Active Debris Remover shields also make it virtually impossible for debris to enter the bearings.

Please note, it is recommended to use a new chain as the CeramicSpeed OSPW system requires a longer chain than the stock derailleur cage.

Compatibility

The Shimano DURA-ACE R9250 rear derailleur and CeramicSpeed OSPW work with Shimano 12-speed road drivetrains. It is compatible with all sizes of Shimano 12-speed road cassettes, including 11-34T and Shimano HG+ chains.

Considerations

These are both premium components that improve drivetrain efficiency, but come at a premium cost. In addition, we have found that CeramicSpeed OSPWs perform best when they are properly maintained (cleaned and greased), so this setup is best for someone who maintains the condition of their bike’s drivetrain.
