by E. J. Harrison (3rd Dan)
London: W. Foulsham & Co., Ltd., nd. [1954]
First Edition (with no additional printings listed on copyright page). "Distributed by Sterling Publishing Co., Inc., 215 East 37th St., New York 16" stamped on title page.
Hardcover in first issue dust jacket (with "(3rd Dan)" on the line below author's name (this was changed to "4th Dan" on later printings). 199 pp. 5-3/4" x 8-5/8". Line drawings & photographs.
Very good in good, price-clipped dust jacket.
Moderate age-toning to pages. Distributor's stamp to title page. Faint damp staining to front end paper & pastedown along bottom end of front hinge. Otherwise, interior clean. Creasing to top corners of pp. 19-28. Bubbling along edge of rear pastedown (seems to be an imperfection that happened during manufacture). Binding is firm & square. Slight bow to front board. Covers have light wear along edges, at corners & at spine ends; light rubbing to head of spine & to titles. Dust jacket has minor chipping along top edge & at corners; a few short edge tears; mild wear at spine ends; moderate to heavy general soiling, especially to spine & along edges of panels; front flap is clipped at bottom corner, & has "3/1" written at top corner; mild abrasions & a few stray marks to rear panel. DJ comes protected by new, archival cover.
An attractive & desirable copy of Harrison's "interpretation of the Oda System comprising numerous drastic Immobilizations, Necklocks and Dislocation Methods hitherto unknown in the West" [quote from title page]. A nice addition to your collection or as a gift.
