"Second Baptist Church was originally organized as Jonesboro Baptist Church in the year of 1899 late in October. The meeting was held in a bush arbor at Jonesboro station on the A. G. S. Railroad. There were 28 members constituting the church. The name of the church was officially changed to Second Baptist Church on July 9, 1944."

James Broox "J. B." Thompson (1932 - 2020) was a longtime pastor, serving churches in Birmingham, Bessemer, Jasper and Walker County.
